Don’t get me wrong I know I’m incredibly lucky to be able to get away with my better half for a short break in Alicante this week. Doubly So given the miserable autumnal weather of the bank holiday weekend so far. But I’m now faced with that terrible challenge we all face when we get away in the summer – how do you keep in touch with the cricket?
While we didn’t plan it this way, I was very relieved when I saw that the quarter-finals ran Thursday to Sunday, the day before we headed off. But then the great English weather had its say and now as I write this I’m hoping for a decent wifi connection at our hotel so I can listen to Anthony Gibson’s commentary.
Mind you I’m not the only one who will be grateful for Somerset’s live stream. Shamefully, given the number of sports channels they have Sky will not be covering the game live as their cricket channel is pre-booked with the Kia Super League finals day. I’m assuming this is for contractual reasons as it is not as if Sky don’t have a spare channel or two. And while we all wish Heather Knight’s Western Storm well it is disappointing that a game as significant as today’s isn’t available to those of us who pay out for Sky every month.
There is one consolation, maybe even an omen though. The last time we played Notts at Taunton in June we flew to San Francisco meaning I missed the whole of the second day of that thrilling win. I was engulfed sufficiently to be allowed to sit in Starbucks on the city’s waterfront on the Tuesday morning to follow the last few overs as skipper and ’keeper saw us over the line in that epic run chase. So hopefully there will be a repeat this afternoon.
