Day 1. Surrey Second XI 229/7 CT Steel 70, Shoaib Bashir 3/51.

On a rain-affected day, familiar faces Ben Geddes and Ryan Patel added 68 for the opening wicket before Jack Harding had Patel caught by Shoaib Bashir for 35. The only other wicket to fall in the morning session was Ben Geddes bowled by JT Langridge for 33 on the stroke of lunch, the hosts having reached 82 for two.

Heavy rain caused a delay after lunch and play eventually got back underway at 2:40pm. Surrey had reached 106 for two in the 32nd over when rain returned forcing an early tea to be taken.

Five wickets fell during the third session: Shoaib Bashir picking up those of Steel (70), Reifer (23) and Kimber (5) to finish the day with figures of 3/51 and Tommy Rex claiming those of Smith (33) and Blake (7), closing with figures of 2/26. Surrey finishing the day on 229/7.

Day 2. Rain restricted play to only 27 overs)

Surrey resumption of their first innings was challenged with superb bowling from Somerset who restricted the hosts first innings to 286. Shoaib Bashir was the best of the Somerset bowling attack returning figures of 3/51; while there were two wickets each for Alfie Ogborne (2/53) and Tommy Rex (2/49).

Andrew Umeed (10) was the first Somerset batter to lose his wicket, leaving Billy Mead and Ben Green to take the score to 59 before Mead (27) was out caught Barnwell bowled Kimber. Ben Green and Xavi Clarke remained solid, taking Somerset to the lunch break on 88 for two but regrettably the rain came and no more play was possible.
