County Championship, Taunton, May 11th 2018, Hampshire 198-8
Tom Abell is developing a rather nice habit of taking crucial wickets at critical times. The skipper felt compelled to introduce himself to the Somerset attack after an hour. A Somerset attack that had been pummeled to the tune of 86-1 off the first 18 overs of the game.
Abell removed James Vince, who had raced to 44, just before lunch to add to the wicket of Joe Weatherley. 111-3 looked a lot better for the home supporters.
The rest of the day followed a pattern that might have been more reasonably expected in such conditions in May. 111-3 became 111-4 with the first ball after lunch. And the prized wicket of Hashim Amla to boot.
Abell added the wicket of Lewis Mc Manus to end the day with 3-18 while Dom Bess induced a most injudicious shot from Rilee Roussouw. With Lewis Gregory rediscovering his control to pick up Alsop and Berg the memories of the first session were, thankfully, diminished.
